To access the career of your dreams, do you need to finish high school? This is a question that many of you are asking yourself.
In our current society, education is often considered the basis of all professional progression. Completing secondary school is generally seen as a necessary step to access higher education or qualified professional training.
However, it is important to remember that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. We are going to prove it to you by sharing the inspiring testimony of Karine, whose quest is to access the career of his dreams.
Finishing high school remotely due to a difficult life path
Unfortunately, graduating from high school was not my priority growing up. I had a difficult childhood. Living with a host family, I never had the support of my parents during my studies. So I failed my classes several times.
Worse still, my host family kicked me out when I was 17. At that point, my only concern was meeting my basic needs. I opted, like many people in my situation, to drop out of school and look for a job.
Without going into details, this period was particularly trying. I had to make difficult decisions, including putting aside my education, even though I was a gifted student with the skills needed to succeed. My dream of my DES had to be put on hold, but it was never forgotten.
Finishing high school remotely thanks to the support of my new family
My journey has been far from easy. I had to take on responsibilities very early on, without anyone’s support. However, at the age of 24, I am no longer alone. I am lucky to have an exceptional partner and very supportive in-laws by my side. 🫶
My partner is a true source of inspiration. He holds a degree in engineering and is embarking on a promising career. His example stimulated me, giving me the will to live up to him. Inspiration was a key factor, but even more valuable was the support he gave me. He helped me greatly in my math course. His constant presence in difficult times as well as in times of success is invaluable. I feel that he is proud of my progress, which motivates me enormously. It is a constant source of motivation in my life.
That’s not all! My mother-in-law also gave me great support. She returned to her studies in the past, while being a mother. Returning to school while raising children requires exceptional perseverance. Although I didn’t have to face these same challenges, I felt even more of a responsibility to succeed.
Complete your secondary education remotely with challenges
Determined to take charge of my future, I found a new opportunity to complete my secondary education remotely: ChallengeU. I discovered this solution during the Christmas holidays in 2021 via Facebook.
I was immediately attracted to this alternative option, because the courses were available remotely, accessible from home, at any time. No textbook purchases were required since it is an interactive educational platform. The teaching method immediately convinced me!
Straight away, I can say that I know the platform well. For what? Because I studied almost all courses available, i.e.: Maths 3, Maths 4, English 5, French 4 and French 5.
At one point, I was able to take three courses simultaneously, because my learning pace was fast. I no longer had a job. My priority was to make progress in my online courses. I had a very specific objective: To enter university.
When I started my online courses, I had a long-term goal in mind. I knew that obtaining my degree would open up new perspectives for me, propelling me far beyond my current situation. It’s a principle that I constantly keep in mind.
It’s normal to want more and to no longer want to settle for what you have. There is no shame in wanting to change your life. In addition, it is completely legitimate to have apprehensions before getting started. It is important to progress at your own pace, without rushing, while devoting the necessary effort. I can assure you it’s worth it!
My advice for completing secondary school remotely
I would like to share an anecdote with you. Due to a panic attack, I failed an exam. I was ready to succeed, but anxiety made me fail. I did some work on myself before ironing it. Result: I passed it with a score of 96%!
Don’t hesitate to ask your teachers for help. They are there for the educational side, but also the emotional side. They will give you tools to deal with your difficulties. Perseverance is the key to your success. To continue and move forward despite the challenges, you have to put all your heart into success. I repeat: it’s worth it!
For my part, I had the necessary skills to succeed, with good grades and good comments from my teachers. However, it was my family situation at the time that hindered my progress. I didn’t have the opportunity to finish high school. The most crucial advice I can share with you is to seize any opportunity that comes your way and go for it without hesitation!
